Alas TV I bid you a fond farewell

By: Ben Partch » On: June 11th, 2009

Well tomorrow is the big day! The day that TV goes away here in my house. The digital switch is upon me and I have decided to do without TV or at least broadcast TV anyway.

My choices we’re to either by a $500 plus TV, get cable/satellite or purchase converter boxes and new antennas. My decision, none of the above. :P

Firstly, there is nothing on TV worth spending $500 for, there is nothing on cable/satellite worth the cost and okay, I admit it I have a converter box (though it was given to me) but it will not work as I don’t have an antenna compatible with the new digital TV.

So I am just going to do without!

10 years ago this would have been a big blow to my daily plan. I used to watch quite a bit of TV. Though once I got online, TV became less and less a part of my life. I still watch it from time to time but for the most part it is turned off for the majority of the day.

Ahh the internet, I can watch TV on you! I have a few of choices in fact: Hulu, YouTube, Netflix/Roku to name a few and of course my DVD collection.

So I think I’ve got it covered, at least for now. Maybe down the road I may give in to this change but they are going to have to come up with better shows than what they air now! What are your plans?
